How would you solve the problem when there are few pictures and few words? In order to avoid the uniformity of layout, methods such as size, texture, space, reorganization, transformation and distortion, density, and repetition are usually used to express the expression of space as much as possible. So today we will focus on the expression form of [repetition] and analyze in detail how to implement it in the design!

Repetition is the continuous recurrence of the same or similar form. Repetition often appears in our daily lives, such as the tiles of buildings, the seats of football fields, as well as plants and animals.

Repetition is also a type of planar composition, that is, repetitive composition. Repeated composition refers to the regular and repeated arrangement and combination of basic shapes to create a new and visually impactful shape, creating a richer design space for the picture.

In addition to appearing in life, repetition is also a commonly used visual expression technique in our design. For example, it is used in brand design, product packaging design, poster design, logo design, material extension and other designs, so repetition is a styling method that gets twice the result with half the effort.

If you encounter the problem of empty layout, you can use repeated techniques to solve it. Repetition not only forms the main element, but also adds a strong sense of visual design. If you only use a single repetition, it can easily lead to a monotonous picture. So how to make variable repetitions? Next, I will introduce to you the manifestations of repetition.

Large and small repetition: refers to the regular repeated layout of basic shapes through changes in size. This form has a wide range of applications and is highly adaptable.

For example, you can keep the size of the basic shape the same and change the color to reconcile a single repetition. Or you can enhance the sense of hierarchy in a progressive way, but you need to control the rhythm of size when using it. Next, let’s see how many situation changes can occur with large and small repetitions.

In design, the simplest repeated form is to keep the size of the basic shape unchanged and then arrange and combine it regularly. For example, the size, shape, texture, color, etc. are all consistent. This kind of repetition can also be called absolute repetition. Although this kind of repetition can bring a neat and unified visual sense to the layout, it can also create a negative impression of monotony and dullness.
